So I've been sending emails to Facebook with the hopes of getting my facebook account back... so far is not working! On the brighter side of things, the Mets have swept the LA Dodgers on the double header today. First time since 1971 ...that's good stuff. Everything seems to be good in the Met Universe...Wright has started to hit, Bay is hitting, Reyes is his old self ...Now, if I can just get my Facebook account back I would be all set.

It has been just about a year since a friend of mine got me hooked in to facebook, what's worse, he got me hooked to MafiaWars.. great game with awful developers and programmers. Ever since I got hooked on the game I made a promise to myself that I would not watch another game until the Mets started to win.. of course my rants and raves did not last long..I still followed with one eye closed.

If there's one thing I've learned is that turning your back on your team is a bad omen. Don't get me wrong, I made some very good friends in facebook but after spending a couple of thousand dollars on the game and getting harassed by facebook's ass-backwards TOS and getting my account disabled... it has come to this. I'm back to follow my team full time. Back to writing on my tiny little, decrepit blog.. back to buying baseball cards... -I wonder if I can get a nice Ike Davis rookie card ?- And YES! It's good to be back.. it's good to see CitiField's crispy green field.. it's nice to hear fatso on the radio kill the Mets... it's great getting those gut wrenching feelings.. "will they win the game today" ? Ahhh yes, just like good old times.

Now, if you excuse me, I have to check out that Ike Davis baseball card.

After listening to Fatso and the Dog for many years I constatly wished that they would just go away. I got half of the wish sometime ago when the odd looking dog left for satellite radio. If only the other half of the wish would just come true.

I really do not understand what the NY METS were thinking when they renewed the contract with the FAN.. I mean, the abuse they constantly take from Mike Francesa is just unreal..... He's always right, he knows the law, he has friends all over, he's a Yankee spokesman, shits on the Mets every chance he gets, the fans are imbecils, he does no wrong...

Every so often I have to remind myself that being healthy in company of my family is the most important thing I can ever ask. That and of course a job to feed my family. Christmas is here and while some of us are caught up in the present shopping frenzy we must not forget why we celebrate this day. The birth of baby Jesus. It's definately the most amazin' of all holidays.

My boss sent an email out today wishing us a happy holiday. In it, he points out to keep "things in prespective." That nothing is as big as it seems. Simply give 100% and things work out at the end. I liked that message. I try to remind myself of that everyday. It makes life a lot easier and enjoyable.

Before the Mets fired Willie they were DONE. The fact that Jerry brought them all the way to the last day, it's truly amazing. Considering the many injuries and the mess of a bullpen, Jerry did a very good job and should be back. It proves, one more time, that pitching wins games.

Saying goodbye Shea eased the pain of defeat. I mean, seeing all these great Mets back a Shea was just awesome. I mean Doctor K and Willie Mays and Mike Piazza? Seaver throwing to Piazza... WOW Very nice!

I spent 2 hours this morning trying to find someone to go with me to the game. I would of loved to take my wife but we didn't have a babysitter so she gladly kick me out of the house to see old Shea one last time.

I started calling and texting about 10 friends but they were all working or doing something else today. Finally a buddy came through and we took off for single admission doubleheader. It was so nice to get that first beer in after a long ass ride from the Catskills.

By the end of the second game I was shocked that so many people had left... very dissapointing. I mean, I know the bullpen fucked up the first game but come on... this is Shea's last few games.. where the hell are you people going to? Jose Reyes Home Run

Anyway.. I was happy to see Santana and Jon Niese tonite. The bullpen lost another one to Santana. I really hope Minaya does something spectacular to fix our bullpen next year and I hope to see more of Jon Niese. He was very good.

My uncle gave me some beautiful, bright, fresh hot cherry peppers from his garden. My first thought was ceviche which I had made before and posted some pictures of it. However, cherry peppers are also good with cheese and cured meats so I decided make Stuffed Hot Cherry Peppers.

Ingridients:

Prosciutto thinly sliced

Provolone cut in 1/4 in cubes (depending on size of peppers)

Hard Salami or other type sausage thinly sliced

Sweet or Hot Cherry Peppers

Olive Oil

White Vinegar

Preparation:

Clean the inside of the peppers. Make sure you get all the veins out including the seeds. Wash the peppers and DO NOT TOUCH your face, eyes, etc...

Then place a cude of provolone on a slice of Salami or Prosciutto and stuff the pepper. Once you have enough, pour white vinegar, oil and any other fresh herbs in a pickle jar and you can start filling the jar with your stuffed peppers.

Pickle time anywhere from 2-3 wks.

So after whining about ESPN and MLB changing the starting time for the Sept 7th 1:10 pm start.... it really didn't matter that much after all. We drove to NYC via Palisades Parkway and then took the # 7 train to the game. It was great ...my daughter was amazed with all the buildings, trains and the musicians in the train. We got there a little early.. well, more like 3 hours early... but we got to walk around a bit and then got in the stadium around 6:30pm. It was worth seeing my daughter Gabriela's joy. She loved seeing Mr. Met, Reyes and Wright and of course, she was thrilled with her Johan Santana Bobblehead Doll. It was an awesome evening alltogether.

During a recent business trip to Washington DC, my buddies and I went out for a night of Fun in Bethesda, Md. This was the first time I was involved in bar hopping so it was exciting and new to me. One of the joints we stumbled upon was playing Salsa music. Salsa to me is as essential as breathing so you can understand how wiry I was as soon as I got there. Encouraged by my buddies I asked a couple of girls to dance and of them replied: I don't dance with Met fans...it turned out they were Yankee Fans ---it's amazing how my t-shirt has a power over people were they just say nasty things about the Mets--- I knew at that moment that I had to get on the dance floor and do it quickly to show the two cold hearted females what they were missing. Right away we met up with a birthday girl and her friends from another bar and got her to dance... as I'm dacing

one of the yankee fans looks at me and I just pointed at my Mets t-shirt. Sticking it to the Met Haters was one of the highlights of the night. Take that!

I learned two things that night:

1) I can still dance a mean Salsa (my back is killing me)

2) Yankee Fans suck in Bethesda too.

Ever since last year's wool festival at the dutchess county fair, my beautiful bride has been hooked on wool spinning, knitting and of curse, sheep. Well, this weekend was her birthday and we took a ride to Cummington, MA for the Sheep and Wool Festival and also visited South Deerfield's Magic Wing Butterfly Conservatory ( by the way it's only a mile or two from Yankee Candle Headquarters).

Now, you might be wondering if I have lost my cojones by spending the entire weekend with sheep and butterflies... well, let's see; a) it was my wife's birthday present b) my daughter was looking forward to sheep and butterflies c) the mets suck ...yes, I'll rather spend time with butterflies and sheep than watch the Mets play.
I'm glad I spent the time with my wife, kids, butterflies and sheep... it was worth it, although I found it a bit strange spending time in Red Sox Nation. I saw a lot of people wearing Red Sox gear.. and why not, their team is going all the way this year... thankfully I didn't get any stupid comments on my Mets gear.

Whatever you do don't ever stay at the Travelodge in Pittsfield, MA. It sucks as much as the Mets do.

Hi Omar,

Everyone knows the METS suck right now. Yes, I know it's still May but they are playing pathetic baseball. I mean, winning one game from the Nationals is simply unacceptable. I don't know about you Omar, but when I fuck up at work I get reprimanded. The question here is when will Willie be reprimanded? When will Heilman be reprimanded.. you can't keep putting a shitty product on the field and expect your customers to be happy about it. I mean, I'll like to think that the Wilpons are not pleased right now..I bet Fred wants to break and throw things at this point. He has to know that the fact that it's still early and everyone else on the national league east sucks does not give this team the right to brush off the loses like they did the end of last year. I know it's making me and other Met fans I know insane. Do we think Willie has done a bad job overall? Not really. But what is clear that his magic is gone.. every move he makes turns to cow dung. I don't think you want cow dung at Citi Field, do you? It stinks! Trust me, I'm from up state NY.

We will have the pitching.. look at Pelfrey today he was awesome... Pelfrey, Maine, Santana.. this is a nice pitching core. The hitting is very good too... but they are trying too hard and are sucking as a result. Willie just doesn't have the right touch to turn them around. Why didn't he come out and argue with plate umpire after Alou was thrown out? Does he really have his player's back? He might... but it doesn't look like it from where I sit.

Anyway, Omar. I hope you make some more great moves in the future.. you've done a great job bringing in the talent. But you manager hasn't produced. Not your fault.

(April 12th) We had another Sayonara (game-ending) win last night, what a great game! Omatsu came through in the clutch, with a pinch hit in the 9th inning to drive the winning run. Kakunaka had a great at-bat – then was walked to 1st to lead the inning. He went to 3rd on Hori’s hit and we celebrated on the field. It was a great thing to see! Naruse pitched a near perfect nine innings. He gave up one run on a missed cue by Imae, but he pitched extremely well. It was the best he’s pitched all season. He had great control and threw all of his pitches for strikes, staying ahead in the count. As everyone knows, Zuleta, Fukuura, and Nishioka are all injured, but I really like the way Nemoto and Tanaka Masahiko are playing as they fill in. All are doing a fine job and will hopefully continue to give us power. Thank you!

Oh yes.. I miss Bobby Valentine but I can only dream.

Isiah Randolph really makes me angry. I don't want to see him around in 2009.

Looks like the "good old Mets" are back in perfect form. They are definately first when it comes to loosing. I've keep hearing about how the Mets and the rest of their division is bunched together and it will be a close race by the end of the year. Well, you know what? The Mets should not be bunched together with anyone. they should be running away with the East this year. Are they a perfect team.. of course not.. but they should be the "team to beat" not the team everyone beats. Am I over reacting? Maybe.. what other alternative do I have? I've been a fan since '91 I have nothing to root for with this team. I love the Mets.. but right now they are as sad as a wet dog in the middle of winter. Sad, very sad. What pisses me off even more is that I can't even follow my forgotten soccer team , they even suck nowadays. I have no choice but to concentrate on fishing this year. Maybe I'll get lucky this year like in 2007..

I've been bitching about the Willie.Delgado.Heilman trio like one of those crazy people walking around nyc with a big sign on their chest.. you know, the one that says It's the end of the world.. only to have been ignored by nearly everyone I talk to about mets baseball. Okay, keep ignoring but you'll see I'm 100% right at the end of the pathetic season we are going to have.

While the fans have booed.. and booed badly, what has this trio, pieces of cow dung, given us to cheer about? Nothing. Other than Johan Santana,who by the way has a higher batting average than Delputo, they have given us nothing.

Everyone is saying that the Met fan over-reacting... why wouldn't we over react?

Let's point out some really good reasons why we shouldn't over react:

1) It's only April (bull shit...)

2) So what if Delgado is hitting .208 and leaving runners on base like crazy (my dead aunt Lola hits better than that)

3) Willie's moves are not idiotic, not sir. (Can you say Isiah Randolph?)

4) Willie's blindness (see #3)

5) It's early in the year (see #1)

6) You can't jump on conclusions on Delgado hitting he'll come out of his 2007-2008 funk (Yeah.. just like I can't predict that gas will hit 4 bucks a gallon...it's too early in the year to tell..right? by the way gas is $3.75/gal right now)

7) Because we are Met fans and everything that is good in the world of sports happens to us ( what world are you from asshole?)

8) Because after the train wreck of 2008 season Isiah Randolph.Deldone.Heilputo won't be around (well, if that's the case... we are in good shape..I can't wait for 2009 so in the mean time, suck it up met fans)

A few months ago I started to collect baseball cards. I'll be posting some of these cards to share with you.. there are some favorites and some not so favorites but worth having. Most of them are of former and current Mets players but I have some that are peculiar and new to me since I've only been following baseball and the Mets since 1992. Soccer was my first love.

I'll start with my favorite card yet. A Topps 2004 Cracker Jack-Mike Piazza baseball card. The curious thing about the card is that the description reads "MIKE PIAZZA, New York Nationals" It's a classic.

Stop bringing up.. all the frigging know it all personalities (mike fatboy francesa and the other freaks at WFAN and SNY for that matter) seem to bring it up all the time. The fact is that we, the fans, are pissed off right now because our team is better than what is showing to be on the field. Is 2 or 3 games over .500 too much to ask? Come on, man! Everyone I talk to keeps telling me it's been 10, 11 games. Well, you know what ? That's not acceptable! A team with Santana, Reyes, DWright, Delgado, Beltran.. come on!! Who else do you need on this team to make it happen? Stop worrying so much about what the media and your fans think and go out there and play real baseball. Show us you can win .. and maybe there will be no boos. Is it too much to ask? NO! You are more than capable.. but you seem tentative and you look like you don't want to be there. Throw strikes and get hits (specially with bases loaded) come on, guys! You are better than this! As far as booing Santana goes.. well, if you did that at the game, you are an idiot!

Do I still feel the same about Willie, Delgado and Heilman? Yes... they should all be gone. We will regret not firing Willie this year. I find it very interesting that he gets on a pitcher that didn't give up a hit until yesterday's game and not on the players he should get on! Heilman? Hello??!! Be fair Willie, be fair!

Ever since my voluntary reassignment I've been looking for a barber closer to home. Donning my Mets jacket, Mets hat, and watch.. I got in the car and started looking for one. I found one right on main st, of course. I parked the vehicle, walked into the establishment and I'm greeted with a loud "ohhhhh look at this guy, he's a Met fan". Right in front of me was Derek Jeter, a fathead Derek Jeter. I was very nervous..I felt like I had just walked into the Death Star in nothing but my mets underwear. Yes, I have those.

So the first thing I said was; hey I bleed red too (I wasn't walking out of there without a haircut..I needed it..bad!!) The guy that seemed to be the loudest was the owner.. The Mario Batalli look alike. I purposely let other people go in front of me so he wouldn't fuck up my hair.

The less assuming barber waves me over and I ask him if he too was a Yankee fan. He said, it depends on the tip. I knew I could work with this guy. Money talks right? Well, after a few laughs, the nerves disappeared and I knew I had found my new barber. I no longer felt like a caveman. I can't believe what I put my self through for a haircut....I don't even want to think what's going to happen when I go back in two weeks.

Baseball Heaven

Last weekend my wife and I decided to go to Cooperstown, NY. It was to be our early Valentine getaway. She wanted to look for Chocolate shops, Antiques and Wool (she's into spinning wool). I just wanted to visit the HOF and the baseball shops. I bought the last Mets watch at the HOF and the last John Franco Cancelled Postcard at a pretty cool shop that has been in cooperstown for forty years, run by the same sweet lady. We braved the elements and we were happy we did. The snow and high winds and the white out conditions couldn't stop us from having a great weekend. It was probably as cool as my honeymoon. Except this time we had our kids with us. Which was in itself a learning experience for my 5 yr old girl.

When I stepped into the HOF I had a feeling that I was stepping into baseball heaven. It was the most calming yet exciting feeling. I could almost see a glow of light surrounding the HOF. It was truly amazin'.

Seeing the plaques of the inductees was my favorite part. I was afraid that someone was going to tell me that my time was up. I wanted to look at every single one. But the one I was really looking for, all along, was Tom Seaver's. A person who meant so much the the Mets organization. Someone who carried himself as a blue collar guy. In my eyes, this guy was everything my father said to be like. A solid individual all around.

Seaver will be the person I'll telling my son about when he grows up. His principles and hard work are exemplary.

Ha! So.. Mr. Paul LoDuca is a cheater and I'm a little surprised. I feel like my trust has been raped, stepped on and kicked on the nuts. Thanks Paul. You can always count count on Bruce, yes. I decided to download the one CD I have of him on my ipod and as I'm listening to the songs I couldn't help but think of the daily life we, hard working Americans, have to go through every day.... Without doubt, he is the Boss.

You can count on him to deliver every time. His songs remind me of my brother, my family, my hometown in Peru and in the messed up but beautiful New Jersey... no, I don't miss it that much- These songs make me feel happy and sad at the same time, they make you get in the convertible you don't have and drive, drive until you get nowhere. Peruvian Gastronomy. Offseason Edition.

So this past July was my best fishing season ever. Bass were as sexy and abundant as ever, and I was bringing them in like there was no tomorrow. Not to mention that I had the best time with my father and brother-in-law. I mean, we just didn't want to leave Black Lake .

My father in-law was gracious enough to fillet some of the crappies, blue gills and bass we caught. He's the best.

The fillets have been in the freezer for over two months now and I think it was time for me to make a meal out of them.

I started with Ceviche. A dish that no peruvian can live without.

To make a quick version of Ceviche you need:

Raw fish chopped in pieces. 1/2 in squares should do just fine.

Lemon juice (3-4 Lemons).

Hot peppers. I used habaneros today. Careful, don't put your hands on your face after cleaning or chopping the peppers. You think the Mets collapse was paiful, you don't know the half of it.

Chopped fresh parsley.

Thinly sliced red onions.

Salt and pepper to taste.

Now all you have to do is mix up the ingredients and let it sit for a few minutes.

A more traditional Ceviche will have peeled boiled potatoes and sweet potatoes sliced in half. Corn on the cob and a side of warm white rice.

If you are freaking out about eating raw fish, don't worry the lemon juice will cook the fish. Just like the Marlins cooked the Mets. Easy.

Well, the ceviche was done and it looked good but I had 2lbs of fish left.

Make sure the fish is nice and clean.

Get some foil aluminum paper, you know the type the foils like Glavine. Spread some seasoned bread crumbs on it. Place fillets on bread crumbs and start frying my friend.

Now, what's Omar going to give up to get Santana, let's start with Heilman, Pelfrey and, I hate to do this but, Carlos Gomez. In giving up Gomez the Mets must make sure they'll sign Santana to a long term deal. I can see Gomez become a triples machine in Minnesota.

Escaping The Mets

So for the past few years my family has been trying to get to the Garlic Festival. Today was it. I had to make a decision; watch the dreadful Mets or indulge myself in everything garlic. Hmmm?

I was having lovely day with the family and seeing some friends along the way, just a wonderful time really. I made one mistake though. I wore my NYM t-shirt. By 1:30pm a nice gentleman got next to me, he was making nervous, and says "they are loosing 4-0 buddy" I had no choice, but to thank the guy. But I really wanted to punch him in the head.

After this episode I put on my Newport RI sweatshirt to avoid more grief.

After a little while we go over to a booth to check out some goods and I over hear the vendor say to a Yankee fan:

Vendor: so the mets are gonna make it today?

Yankee Fan: I hope not

V: Oh come on, we have to root for NY teams, right?

YF: Not really.

The vendor shoulda known better. It was obvious he wasn't from NY. I wanted to punch him in the head.

As we make our way out of the festival into the parking area, another "nice" gentleman pops out of his van window as he drives by and says:

Hey man, they are loosing 7-1. I acknowledge the guy with nod. I wanted to punch him in the head also.

So as you can see, I had a wonderful day at the Garlic Festival. Oh yeah, the food was excellent. I recommend you go to it next year. Just don't wear your NYM t-shirt if they are playing their last game of the season.

See, the messed up thing about not following other sports, other than baseball, is that when your team sucks and can't win an important game, you are relegated to watch old movies, cartoons or your generic shows, you know, Law and Order and such. I used to follow the Giants and Knicks. The last time I watched the Giants play I was still in college, that was in 1997.. and before that, Starks was still with the Knicks.. I watch people turned their heads and kinda forget about their baseball team when they are going bad. They just shift their attention to their football team. I can't do that. I can't listen to the "FAN". I can't watch ESPN or SNY. I just search for other entertainment on TV or just rely on the web.

Met fans know that if there's something good happenning murphy's law says that it won't last long and it will go downhill quickly, kinda like what the Mets are doing now, then do better then do shitty again. There's no consistency. That makes it worse I think. They keep you guessing.

I stopped watching the games almost three weeks ago. You know, when they got swept in Philly. Am I a bad fan for that? Okay, maybe. But I would be a good fan if my team was better. If they could get an out or a hit at that crucial moment.

You know, this was the first year that I started buying Mets memoribilia. I don't know if I'll stop buying stuff or not. But they are sure making it difficult for me to do so.

For now, I'm done watching and buying, until next year. Maybe.

So for the past two weeks all met fans in the world have suffered to no end. Watching the mets lately has been like watching your grannie and your best pal having sex.

Pretty ugly. No?

The suffering has not ended yet, friends. Get ready for more "sticky" business. The phreaking phillies are not loosing and the mets are fiding ways to loose games (the f^king nationals just lost to the Phils).

I've been told to have faith. I'll have faith when the fucking bullpen does their job and the Mets get to the World Series.

Mets v Oakland A's

So the idea was to take my wife to the game and see Mike Piazza play at one more time. Unfortunately Mike was injured and did not play that day. It was allright though. The disspapointment had gone away in the first inning when Reyes hit a double and then scored on an error. Mets beat Oakland A's 10-2

A beautiful day all around. Also if you ever have a chance to visit Grand Central Station I garantee you that you will be amazed at the beauty of the architecture and also the cool market and shops within.

So after donating some blood for the Red Cross we got free tickets to see the Mets. A bunch of coworkers from the P.O. took a trip to Flushing.

Oliver Perez imploded for like 6 walks in a row I think. The only good thing that night was the Hot Dogs, beer and company.

July 22 2006

My fourth game.

It was an experience to wait for a couple of hours due to a rain delay. The two hours went by fairly quickly, I think that looking at all the orange seats helps a little bit. It's almost like getting lost when you look at the ocean. So beautiful, exciting and full of surprises. El Duque was wonderful of course and Nady had 3 RBI's.

I took my wife and my father in law this time. It was the first time my wife and I had been to a game together. It was the ultimate date.

Mets v Marlins July 2, 2005

My third game.

Mrs. Benson pitched and the Mets lost to the Marlins 7 -3. Once again I dragged my father in law with me and took off to Shea. Here's a good one for you, one of the lines in the box score reads MARLINS 9TH: RING REPLACED BELL (both Padres pitchers now). Also, check this out Lo Duca, Mota, Easley and Delgado were playing for the Marlins.

Not much happening in this game. Other than watching Pedro messing with the fans.

We miss him and dearly.

It took me a few years until I attended my next game. This time I would take my father in law. Now picture this, my father in law is a wonderful man from Schoharie County (Schoharie is a farming community about one hour west of Catskill). It was my father in law first time in NYC since, well let's just say he was nervous about getting in the subway. We took amtrak from Poughkeesie to Penn Station and from there we took the subway. Now, I figured I ask someone where the nearest subway was. So I pick one of the Taxi officials right outside Penn, the guy looks at me and my met t-shirt and says; you are not going anywhere with that t-shirt on... everyone bursted out laughing......turns out the guy was a NY Yankee fan, what a surprise. Like a true New Yorker though, he put his baseball bias aside and helped us go in the right direction.

Anyway, we get there with a huge smile on our faces. Thinking about the hot dogs, the cold beverages and of course, baseball. We got to see David Wright's first major league hit. Watching Reyes and Wright was such a thrill. It felt like we actually had something solid for years to come.

Despite the Mets loosing to the Expos, we enjoy every bit of the experience. I think my father in law was in heaven. It was a great day for bonding I guess.

Unfortunately, I lost all pictures from this game. But I managed to dig a picture of David's first hit, a double off Zach Day of the Expos.

Ditching soccer for baseball (if my father only new).

After being told that I looked like Bobby Bo in 1991, I started ditching my soccer heritage and followed baseball more and more. I used to work at an Italian Deli in Orange, NJ and thanks to the owners, a couple of Italian brothers who used to follow the Mets closely, I came to know the misery and joy of being a Met fan. There's nothing like it, really. The first nine years I just listened to them on WFAN and follow them on WPIX....I think Seaver was still calling the games.

Then 2000 comes around and I'm now living in upstate NY. A friend of mine who happened to be a met fan had an extra ticket to the Mets v
Cards, great seats too. I remember it clearly, it was Bordick's first game, Piazza hit a home run and the Mets won it. Rick Reed was the starting pitcher, Ventura was on third, Bordick was at short, Alfonso at second and Zeile on first. Other than getting lost on our way in and out of Shea, it was an excellent day.

When Piazza hit a home run, I felt like the Peruvian National Soccer Team had scored on Argentina in the world cup. Of course, by now soccer is a thing of the past for me, the combination on not playing soccer anymore and leaving my soccer playing friends in NJ just killed any desire I had to follow it anymore, I didn't go out of my way for it. This is were I gained by subtracting I guess.

My next game wouldn't be until 2004. Let's just say that work, marriage, house and baby were priorities. But my loyalty kept growing by the season.
